progress...

there's new color in the skylight room! in this photo, the concrete floor has been killzed by lbell, as is the kitchen floor. as in all of the rooms, the baseboards were removed so we could paint and reattach them after the floors are done. I don't know if I've written it before, but I had these french doors installed after I bought the house - there used to be a sliding door here, put in backward. yes, backward. and it was so wonky I could, from the outside, jiggle it semi-hard and pull the door out of the track. safety first!

looking from the skylight room into the kitchen. the skylight room used to simply be a back porch, and my landlady (the previous owner I rented from, who sold me the house) had it enclosed when the house was rebuilt back in the 80's after a fire. but the opening where the window was is still there...

so back there, to the right of the cabinets, is where our new 'fridge will ultimately go, and we scored our dishwasher today (both were found on craigslist). we're pulling the trigger on getting the new countertop this week and the new sink is already sitting there waiting to be dropped in (the sink was also nabbed on craigslist), so the kitchen walls and cabinets should be ready for their paint job very-very soon. woot! there's still a good way to go, but we can start to see things getting done!

here's husband eyeing how the freshly painted moulding will look (abell's handiwork). I can cheerlead and encourage all day long, but the spacial reasoning used for mitering edges is NOT my strong suit, so I'm afraid he'll have to seek help with that from someone else.

it occurred to me that I didn't think I'd posted any photos of the baby's room, so here's an idea of what color the walls came out. it's almost a robin's egg blue. I think the old gas stove really sets it off, don't you? for the record, I love that stove. she's not the most appealing-looking appliance and definitely not the youngest, but the old girl knows how to cook! seriously, my favorite feature is that you can totally control the gas flame, which is a rarity nowadays as many stoves have automatic stops on the dials at 'low' or 'simmer'.

I'm still deciding on curtains/bedding/etc. there are so many ways to go with this airy blue!

to close, I was emotionally prompted by JT's journaling of her amazing food-capades this past weekend (you RULE for making all of that good food!) to post this photo of husband's surprise dish for me last night. that's duck leg, ladies and gents, and it was delicious. he served it with wilted beet greens, shitake mushrooms, garlic, and yellow beet salad and roasted potatoes with onions (that were roasted in a little bit of duck fat). he'd told me he'd bought a surprise protein for me, and I never would have guessed duck leg in a million years.

Baby's room is the exact color that I think perfect for a bedroom. In fact it's looks almost identical to the walls in my bedroom. Like all the walls in my house though, they need painting. Love all the colors everywhere. And like you, I love cookin' with gas.
