2 weeks old

we took Mags to the pediatrician today for her 2 week checkup, and were VERY happy to learn that she'd gained a half an inch in length and 8 ounces since her last visit. she'd lost a little too much weight after we brought her home, almost certainly because it took a little while for my milk to come in. the doctor said an 8 ounce gain in ten days was great and for us to keep doing what we're doing, which is breastfeeding her 10-12 times a day and supplementing with a small amount of formula when needed. I was afraid she'd get confused if we introduced a bottle so soon, but she's done fantastically - the girl is HONGRY and will take pretty much whatever she's offered. we still limit the bottles to 1-2 a day, though, if any at all, and I'm trying to pump and build up my supply. the nice thing about having a bottle in play already is being able to leave one for her in the event of a meltdown if I'm away doing a quick gig or something...

she had to have blood drawn at the pediatrician, and has had a pretty rough day ever since. she can get SO worked up - I spent most of the day pacifying, feeding, and letting her fall asleep on me. we're currently trying different tactics trying to get her to go to sleep for the first night stretch, and she's totally fighting it. poor baby!

the quilt Grammy made her:

more family!

this morning - I'd fed her and left her with Daddy while I took a bath:

and this afternoon our friend J came to say hi:

I've managed to get her to sleep on my shoulder... now to pluck up the courage to attempt a transfer to the pack-n-play...

She is looking so adorable.

If you haven't busted out the swaddling technique yet, I'd give it a try. That should (I say *should* because it does for lots of babies, but of course Maggie doesn't care about all of them) help with a stretch at night.

B, I have high praise for swaddling! I think my major rookie move right now is forgetting to do things in order - I'll feed her and she'll fall deep asleep, and then it'll occur to me that she needs to be changed (and swaddled?) before I put her down, which will all cause her to wake up and want to play or eat again. oy! I need to return to my Happiest Baby book for a brush up...

Yay for swaddling! El loves it, and she's not 48 hrs. old yet.
