one of YaYa's quilts

has a new home. it cheerfully flaps in the breeze after a fresh wash. none of the stitches in this quilt cross a seam, so I've been told.

who doesn't love a homemade quilt that belonged to someone you love?

I take pictures.

I know it can be annoying for others sometimes, but I really do enjoy it. Here's a video I made last night from pictures I took walking around our park yesterday... I had such a great time doing it. It felt so good to be outside, whipped around by the wind a little, and with others under a Simpson's sky (you'll see what I mean, I think). What you don't see are a few of the people looking at me suspiciously, wondering why that girl's taking pictures of people she doesn't know.

we're on the couch

watching the DVRd Oscars.

m.y.: oh my gosh, look at Angelina Jolie's crazy amazing jewelry. that green is gorgeous.

husband: I just wish she wasn't so gross. she's gross to me. she's too thin.

m.y.: (beat) I love you.

a note to the director of this year's show... when you're honoring those no longer with us, just set the camera to record in one place and leave it there so I can see the people you're honoring. I don't care about Queen Latifa singing old torch songs or the awesome, never-ending swooping in and out of your award show cinematography that actually made it hard to see some of the footage and read the captions. I just want to see the people who've passed away. clearly. give them - and us - the moment. thank you.

steam it out!!

there is a very nice man currently giving our carpets and rugs a very thorough, eco-friendly steam cleaning right now. we got a flipping awesome deal for four rooms... maybe now some of the secret fears I've had about germs and spores ever since Ike dumped water in our house last September will relax. though prepping the house for the dude stirred up a lot of dust and stuff that's making us both cough. which triggers the I WILL CLEAN EVERYTHING IN THIS HOUSE AND MAYBE I SHOULD GET RID OF HALF OF IT SO IT DOESN'T COLLECT SO MUCH DUST AND HIDE UNCLEANLINESS switch. this feeling shall pass. but not before my dustrags have had their say. I had a doctor in Baton Rouge tell me I was allergic to dust... that I needed to dust once a week, and not sleep with the ceiling fan on. it's hot in BR, and fans were sort of important to me, so I just decided I'd have to keep the fans and house clean so it wouldn't matter what was kicked around in the air. I'm pretty sure M thinks it's a load of hooey... he says everyone's allergic to dust.

M: Can Because I Said So's child come over and play?

M.Y.: No. There's too much dust.
