but would love to hear how my peoples out there manage their media intake. that's the grown up way to ask the question. the blunter version is something like, 'how do you keep social media/the news/etc from sucking up your whole day?'
how do you discipline yourself? or do you?

In theory, I only check email and log on to fb three times a day for no more than 30-40 minutes each. I only read blogs once a week unless it's a lit blog and usually linked to fb. That's still a pretty big chunk of time.
I justify because I don't watch any TV until DMP comes home in the afternoon--truthfully I don't watch much then. I read.
This is a hard one. I really do not watch much TV, we do not even have cable, but I do live stream Netflix, which can eat up a lot of time. lately I have tried to limit myself to blocks of time each morning and afternoon to FB, blogs, Netflix, or the like. Once Steve gets home I try to not get on the computer- some days are better then others with this discipline. Media is a hard thing to be disciplined in- especially now that my job is very flexible! But these are good things to be thought about and be aware of, thanks for helping me think about it.
A lot of my job requires spending hours combing blogs and newspapers and keeping pluggged into twitterm david too.
Facebook isn't a temptation for me, once a day is usually enough. Blogs I check once a day also.
TV is something I wish I could watch less of. When dp was out to sea my friends were my TV shows and I made some really bad habbits. David and I are transitioning to no cable so we will only have streaming content. Scary but I think it will free up time for working out, reading, CLEANING! (ha!)
